Life as an adult
I was just sitting on the bus this evening, on my way home, thinking about life as an adult. Heavy responsibilities, I must say.
List of responsibilities/tasks:
1) settle on a decent job that pays ok
2) find a life partner and settle down (this is the hard one!)
3) start a family (this requires time, effort and LOTSA money, that's why I believe in the 1 child policy.. hahaha)
4) juggle working life with social life
5) pay the bills
6) provide for the house
and the list goes on...
But what intrigues me most is the amount of social skills and the number of facades that one is expected to have as an adult. I'll give you a scenario: One morning, you wake up on the wrong side of the bed and decide that it was going to be a dreadful day. You head to the bus stop to wait for your bus and hope that you will be able to get some quiet time to yourself (coz it's a dreadful day and you just dun wanna talk). BUT, here comes a friend of yours who is also waiting for the same bus. At this point in time, you'll have no choice but to put on this facade and appear cheery when he/she starts a conversation. Lets call this facade 1. So finally, you reach the office. When you see the boss, you put on facade 2. When you see your colleagues, you put on facade 3. When you see your clients, you put on facade 4. See, so many facades!! Interesting, don't you think? And by the way, I'm not referring to myself through this scenario. I'm just making a generalisation. =)
By the way, I'm starting to think that I sound kinda jaded. Somebody help!!!!
